Description of Elective Experience

Observing and assisting with anesthesia, general dental procedures, and more advanced dental and oral surgery procedures.

Practice prophylactic dentistry, dental radiography, and interpretation of dental radiographs.

Learning correct procedures for dental extractions, including surgical extractions.

Revising dental anatomy and the development of teeth. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

The clinic is a well-equipped general practice with additional specialist and referral dental work equipment.

The practice is an accredited American Veterinary Dental College residency site.

I am a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student will attend the clinic for 8 hours each day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

Time will be spent observing consultations and dental and oral surgery procedures.

A cadaver head will be supplied so the student can practice procedures under guidance.

The clinic has a staff of three veterinarians and five nurses. Its second floor includes a kitchen, lounge, and restrooms for staff.
