Description of Elective Experience

DVM Student will be expected to follow the doctor and team around, immersing themselves in the case, both examining and learning as they discuss the cases with the doctors and formulate plans - in rooms with clients, drop offs and surgery/dental procedures.  Based on student confidence and skill level, they may have opportunity to participate in surgery or extractions along with the DVM. Student will never be left alone, but will be expected to participate and help the team during the internship.

2 FT DVM with supplemental Locum DVMs, 4 LVT, 3 Assistants

Digital Dental Radiographs and ultrasonic scaling equipment - average of 3-5 dental CORES per week

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student will be expected to follow veterinarian around, take client histories, complete an exam before/after supervising DVM, discuss case, diagnostics and treatments. Student will also observe communications between the veterinarian and the clients, observe staff interactions with in the hospital.  

Student will get to observe and participate in soft tissue surgeries and dental CORE with extractions during the 2 weeks depending on hospital schedule.
