Description of Elective Experience

The Jefferson County Humane Society Clinic is a high volume low cost clinic that not only does public appointments and surgeries but also cares for all the animals at our shelter as well as works with the humane operations doing exams and work ups. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We are a fully equipped clinic with IDEXX bloodwork machines, radiographs, ultrasound, dental radiographs, monitoring equipment with capnography and laser therapy. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

We are open Monday, Wednesday- Friday 8-5 and Tuesday 12-7. Students can get hands on experience doing spays and neuters and exams on shelter animals as well as doing work ups on sick shelter patients. Will be able to shadow the veterinarians with public appointments.
