IndeVets, PA

Description of Elective Experience

IndeVets is a veterinary staffing company that provides relief services to over 4,000 practices across the country. We have over 250 veterinarians on our team who are either part-time or full-time and enjoy all the flexibility and variety that relief work has to offer, while also being supported by full benefits and a leadership team of veterinarians. While working with one of our Associate IndeVets in an elective rotation, students will have one mentor doctor, with whom they will visit multiple hospitals. The majority of our partner hospitals are small animal general practice clinics. The students will get to see how a variety of practices are run (corporate, privately owned, and possibly shelter) as well as how different teams work together.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The students will shadow their mentor doctor for 34 - 40 hours per week in clinic.  The level of support allowed by the mentors will be based on the comfort level of both the mentor and mentee. The mentors might be seeing exams or performing surgical or dental procedures. Some mentors also elect urgent care or ER shifts and the student would be expected to shadow on those shifts as well. Students are expected to come prepared to discuss cases and to ask lots of questions. They should also wear scrubs and bring a stethoscope, if they have one. Closed-toed shoes are mandatory.
