Description of Elective Experience

Students are exposed to shelter medicine from veterinary perspective. They will able to learn how the structure is set and how each individual employee and volunteers make up the organization and working together.

Students will get opportunities to do intake exams after training with a shelter veterinarian, working closely with a veterinarian at most times. Students can also shadow HVHQ spay/neuter surgeries and/or dental procedures.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

By the shelter veterinarian's direction; hours might differ slightly for possible special events. However, 8am-5pm with an hour lunch break Mon-Fri would be expected. Depending on the students' competency or willingness to give support, we can allow shadowing or support at doctors' discretion.
