Description of Elective Experience

The student will be shadowing a poultry veterinarian overseeing turkey breeder operations in Ontario, Canada. The student will be exposed to farms containing various generations of turkey breeders (pedigree, great-grandparent, grandparent), as well as a turkey hatchery. The student will work with various departments within the organization such as operations, R&D, and veterinary services.

The student will have access to educational resources, such as poultry-specific textbooks, notes, and management texts.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The rotation will be 8 hours per day, 5 days a week. The veterinarian will shadow and conduct post-mortems, provide laboratory support, complete hatchery break-outs, and present educational material to farm staff.
