Description of Elective Experience

The student will shadow the veterinarian's in all aspects of general small animal practice.  Elective surgeries, soft tissue surgeries, emergency cases, routine wellness visits and sick visits. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

The practice provides large volume spay and neuter exposure, dental procedures and most soft tissue surgeries as the opportunity arrives.  In house radiology, reference lab.  Three full time veterinarians in staff.  One new grad and two seasoned vets.  Vet assistants include pre vet students.  Medical case load is large; we see between 30-40 patients in a busy day. Appointment based but known for accepting walk ins.  Routine medical care and emergencies on a daily basis. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student is expected to come shadow everyday from 9-6 with 2 hours lunch and Saturdays from 9-1.  We work with multiple animal rescues, if the opportunity arrives, the student will be able to perform feral cats spays and neuters under direct supervision of one of our veterinarians.  The student will be able to work up medical cases and select treatment options for the client under the direct supervision of one of the vets.

Housing is available for this particular student at the practice owner's home for no extra cost.
