The volunteer / student will work in our daily shelter clinic where he/she will see both clients and shelter animals. Regular consults from vaccines, general examinations, skin infections, ear infections, sickness check-ups, snap testing and parvo testing / treatment will all be seen by the volunteer/student. The volunteer/student will work alongside one of our experienced vets and will also be included on daily surgeries, anything from routine spay and neuter operations to lump removals and wound stitch-ups.
The facility does have a digital x-ray machine, to which the volunteer/student would also gain experience in using and reading.
The volunteer/student would work Monday to Friday 8.30-4pm.
We have 2 vets, 1vet tech, 2 kennel attendants, 1 kennel / behavioural supervisor, 1 receptionist, 2 managers (President and VP) - all permanently on staff. We also have monthly volunteer vets and vet nurses visiting, along with permanent volunteers who work daily at the shelter.
We have a two table surgery theatre, 1 digital x-ray machine, 1 portable ultrasound machine, 2 consult rooms, 1 large treatment / in-patient room.
They are expected to work Monday to Friday, 8.30-4pm.
The shelter is closed on the weekend, however if we have in-patients a schedule is posted and shift work can be expected.
The students will be shadowing the vets on staff, along with leading consults on their own.
