Student will shadow one of 4 doctors on any given day. All doctors are mixed animal veterinarians. The student will rotate through small animal appointments and surgeries, ranging from routine wellnesses to work ups (internal medicine, orthopedic, derm). Surgeries range from routine spay/neuters, mass removals and routine dentals. On the large animal side, the student will shadow a veterinarian through their typical day which may include herd checks, equine vaccinations, power floating, sick animal work, TB testing and emergencies as they arise.
Small animal staff includes four well trained technicians and one technician that specifically performs rehab type work. We have a well stocked pharmacy, basic lab equipment with access to multiple reference labs. Equipment includes surgical laser, radiology, dental radiology and dental equipment. Large animal facilities include a padded recovery stall, two horse stalls and horse stocks. Equipment includes portable ultrasound, radiology equipment and power float as well as four well stocked trucks.
Typical day would be 7:30/8 to approximately 5/5:30 with some exceptions. No on call/after hours are expected but certainly welcome. This is five days a week, no weekends. Students may be allowed to determine diagnostic plans and interpretations dependent upon skill level. They will be allowed to participate in surgery (both large and small) with direct supervision. Assisting with or administering treatment to both large and small animals is expected.
