Description of Elective Experience

Students will gain real world experience as to the workings of a large animal ambulatory services in rural, eastern Ohio.  Daily farm calls include but are not limited to herd wellness, disease monitoring and prevention, dentistry, surgery, reproductive studies (palpation and ultrasonography), lameness evaluation, and radiography.  Students will also directly interact with clients and be included in any and all phone conversations with clients. Students will work directly with Dr. Friend, and owner and operator of the practice. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Farm clothes are required as well as coveralls and rubber boots/cover boots.  Scrub tops are also permitted

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Students are expected to begin and end each day of regular hours farm calls with Dr. Friend.  After hours work is optional.  They are expected to dress accordingly for the weather as well as for working in a farm setting.  Regular hours of work are Monday through Friday 8am-5pm (not set in stone).  Students are also required to bring a positive attitude, good work ethic, and willingness to learn in the truck each day.  Sleeping in the truck is not permitted unless stated otherwise.
