Description of Elective Experience

Students in this experience will be exposed to general practice medicine and surgical cases in the canine and feline species. Opportunities for soft tissue surgeries include OHE, BOD, small mass removals, dental cleanings, abdominal exploratory, cystotomy, gastropexy, surgical biopsy, cryosurgery, electrocautery, other.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Hospital is staffed with one DVM (owner), office manager/RVT, 3 veterinary assistants, 2 receptionists and a kennel worker at this time. We offer digital x-ray, ultrasound, ultrasonic dental cleaning equipment, anesthesia machine, therapeutic laser, microscope, and a full assortment of surgical instrumentation for soft tissue procedures.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The practice is open 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. M-F, closed Sat.and Sun. The student may participate in the scheduled caseload each day. Hands on experience is offered to the student under direct supervision of the DVM.
