Dr. Margot Boerner, GA

Description of Elective Experience

Dr. Boerner has owned a mobile General Equine practice since 1989.  She sees a wide variety of breeds. Appointments include yearly exams, Castration’s, basic lameness and pre-purchase exams, reproductive work ups/ pregnancy checks, foal exams, some basic teeth floating, etc. Some small ruminant work is also included. Dr Boerner takes care of a lot of emergencies consisting of colics, wounds, eye problems, sick foals, and recumbent animals.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Dr Boerner is a practice of one. Part-time help is available for cases requiring more than the owner’s help. She uses an old but serviceable ultrasound machine for repro and basic tendon exams, and has recently purchased new digital radiography equipment.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student should expect to accompany Dr Boerner during as many working hours as is feasible. Some  Saturday work is anticipated. Sunday emergencies are not unusual but will be discussed with student. Based on the situation and the student’s experience with horses, the student will either observe, assist, or handle certain procedures.
