Description of Elective Experience

The clinic is 50/50 large versus small animal practice.  Any interns would be exposed to both facets of the practice.  This would include surgery, farm calls, procedures and examinations.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

the clinic is staffed for in house small and large animal examinations and for farm and stable calls.  We have digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, IDEXX lab suite on site, class 4 laser therapy.  At this time we have two liscensed/accreditied veterinarians, 4 liscensed veterinary technicians and 4 veterinary assistants as well as a few other support staff.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Operating hours for our clinic are 8-6:30 Monday through Friday and 8-3 on Saturday.  Our clinic is available for after hour emergencies as well.  Students visiting our clinic for rotations/externships are welcome to participate in any procedure during our business hours and we place no restictions on which days or hours they are welcome.  Although many interesting surgeries happen after hours, we offer no housing and if a student wishes to participate in these activities they may wish to make arrangements for housing while on rotation.
