Attention:
The Colorado Workers' Compensation Act requires student interns to be covered by workers' compensation insurance. Ohio State is not able to add students to its institutional workers' compensation policy. Prior to scheduling an externship in Colorado, students must work with their externship supervisor to ensure that Colorado worker's compensation insurance requirements will be met. Proof of worker's compensation coverage must be sent to Dr. Emma Read for verification. If a student is not covered by a worker's compensation policy for their externship they will not earn academic credit for the rotation. We are a mixed large animal hospital and see pretty much anything that has hooves. We offer wellness services, reproduction services, sports medicine services, surgical services, hospital services, emergency services, just to name a few. Students can work with their choice of doctors based on their particular interests. Daily appointments vary in type and students are encouraged to tailor their day to experiences they have interest in. We offer a mix of in clinic appointments and farm calls, externs are allowed to attend whichever appointments they'd like.
We have two full time veterinarians currently and we also contract with a couple of different surgeons. We have 3 licensed RVTs on staff to help students as well. We have xray, ultrasound, shockwave, red light laser, aqua treadmill, hydrolic chute, tilt chute, float equipment, full surgical suite, farrier room, I'm sure I'm forgetting some things.
Students are expected to be present and in appointments from 8a-5p Monday- Friday. If students are staying in the clinic housing they can be pulled to assist with emergencies and hospitalized patients during off hours. Students will work with both doctors and technicians during their time here and will always have direct supervision.
