Description of Elective Experience

At Companion Animal Hospital, located in Traverse City MI, our team consists of 2 full-time general practitioners and a dedicated, compassionate, and knowledgeable support team.  We value progressive medicine, participating in continuing education, and collaborating with other veterinarians to stay up to date with the latest medical developments. We routinely see dogs, cats, rabbits, and pocket pets. 

Our doctors practice quality medicine and empower our clients to be the best pet owners possible. Overall, we encourage a collaborative approach and have a supportive team that allows our doctors to enjoy practicing while preserving a work-life balance. If you have an interest in dentistry, surgery, ultrasonography, Integrative Medicine, or exotics, please consider our practice.

We love coming to work every day in a state-of-the-art facility and utilize:

  • We are also able to provide chemotherapy to our patients by collaborating with veterinary oncologist

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?
  • Maintain medical records
  • Hospitalized patient treatment
  • Assitant surgeon (spay/neuter, orthopedics, soft tissue, etc.)
  • Obtaining Medical Histories
  • Formulating treatment plans
  • Performing physical exams (small animal and exotics)
  • Diagnostic interpretation
  • Anesthesia planning and monitoring 
  • Client communication
Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info)

We will provide a hotel stay near the hosptial
