Description of Elective Experience

This externship will provide hands-on experience in a small animal general practice setting. The student will observe and assist with routine appointments, surgical procedures, diagnostic testing, anesthesia monitoring, and client communication. The goal is to strengthen clinical skills, workflow understanding, and patient care knowledge in a companion animal hospital.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have approximately 20 staff members, 4 DVMS and offer all ranges of surgery, dental procedures, laser therapy, acupuncture and have a brand new ultrasound and x-ray machine. We are currently under remodel so the inside of the hospital is brand new

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Students typically follow the schedule of our managing veterinarian, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and she will have externs perform the spay/neuters and shadow in exam rooms.
