Description of Elective Experience

Small animal ophthalmology clinical and surgical rotation.

Centro de Especialistas Veterinarios de Puerto Rico (CEVET); Two Board Certified veterinary surgeons, one board certified veterinary ophthalmologist, 10 veterinary technicians. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Monday-Thursday 8am-6pm. Monday and Wednesday - clinical rotation. Tuesday and Thursday - Surgical rotation. During the rotation, the student will learn how to perform a complete ophthalmic examination and perform some diagnostics; Biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, STT, tonometry, fluorescein staining. During the surgical rotation, the student will participate in patient care, pre-operative preparation, treatments, post-operative care, and will be able to observe multiple surgical procedures.

The student should read and be well prepared for the rotation.
