Description of Elective Experience

Equine sports medicine practice covering hunter/jumper, eventing, dressage, working cow horse and rodeo disciplines in the San Francisco Bay Area and greater Los Angeles regions.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Two veterinarian practice.  One veterinary assistant and two office support staff. Practice is primarily ambulatory with a small clinic. No hospitalized patients. Shockwave, digital radiograph, ultrasound, endoscopy, regenerative laser, FES, regenerative therapies with small lab in house.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Appointments generally Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm with travel locally and throughout the state. Some overnight travel. Shadow veterinarian and veterinary assistant during examinations and patient treatments. Practice with imaging (radiographs,  ultrasound and endoscopy). Diagnostic blocking. Participation in patient assessments and treatment plans.
