Description of Elective Experience

The extern will have the ability to observe examinations, surgery, non-anesthetic procedures and treatments, and potentially assist with treatments and/or surgery if deemed appropriate by the on duty DVM.

We have 1 full time and 1 part time DVM. Our hospital has the following equipment: ultrasound, dentistry unit, digital xray, dental xray, ecg, blood pressure, steam autoclave, cautery units, microscope, centrifuge, Heska in house blood machines, Tonovet

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Arrive no later than 9:00am and stay through 5:00pm (closing), Monday through Friday. She will be shadowing the veterinarians in exam rooms, during surgeries, and in the treatment area. Assisting with any treatments and surgery, or restraint of a patient will be allowed but dependent upon the comfort level of the extern and DVM on duty at the time.
