Description of Elective Experience

Veterinary Externship includes shadowing and assisting at our mixed animal hospital. Students are encouraged to be hands-on when appropriate and to work cases with their attending DVM.

Burnt Fork Veterinary Clinic has 3 small animal practitioners (one offers acupuncture), 1 large animal practitioner, 1 mixed animal practitioner, and 14 support staff members, including certified veterinary technicians, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, receptionists, and management staff. 

Equipment: ultrasound (multiple for large and small animal), digital x-ray, small animal dental prophy equipment, dental x-ray, large animal stocks, equine dental equipment, small animal physical therapy equipment. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student is expected to shadow and assist 8 hours a day but more hours via large animal emergency are available.
