Description of Elective Experience

We are a private small animal general practice, 5 doctor, AAHA approved hospital with a Fear Free Certified Medical Director who trains all our staff on Fear Free practices.   We offer soft tissue surgery, limited orthopedics, dentistry, wellness and sick pet care.   On an externship, the vet student will scrub into all surgeries and dentistries in the morning with dvms, and in the afternoon, will see appointments with our doctor team.  We will do case reviews and have the student participate in planning for anesthesia drugs, post op care and recommendations and create a differential diagnosis and treatment plan for appointments.  

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have 3 CSRs, 10 veterinary assistants and 5 doctors, and 1 practice manager.

We have digital xray, digital dental xray, laser sx, cold laser therapy, ultrasound, inhouse IDEXX lab, Antech send out lab, all digital medical records using Cornerstone.   We use AI for Signal Pet radiology review and ScribbleVet medical notes.

We are AAHA accredited and have Fear Free certified staff.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

We are open 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday

Student will be supervised at all times and will spend time shadowing dvms in surgery and appointments and will be asked to general ddx, tx plan, sx plan, and help create medical records.
