Description of Elective Experience

We are a 4 doctor ambulatory dairy practice serving large dairies and calf ranches in eastern New Mexico and west Texas. Students get hands on experience in pregnancy diagnosis, milk culturing, obstetrics, and regulatory work.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have 2 person support team. Offer students an ultrasound to use and have a milk quality lab in our office.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Students are responsible to work with the assigned doctor 5 days a week. They are to go along to herd checks, farm calls, and all emergencies (if they feel comfortable). It is usually 40-50 hours per week.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info)

We have an apartment above our office which is available free of charge to students. It includes WiFi, washer/dryer, and a small kitchen. It is not pet friendly. Students are required to provide their own vehicle.
