Description of Elective Experience

During the two-week clinical rotation at the ER veterinary hospital, students will gain hands-on experience in triaging, diagnosing, and treating a variety of urgent and critical cases. Students will work alongside experienced emergency veterinarians, assisting with procedures such as wound care, fluid therapy, and emergency surgeries. Expect a fast-paced environment where students refine their clinical decision-making, improve technical skills, and enhance their ability to handle high-pressure situations. This rotation will provide valuable exposure to real-world emergency medicine, preparing students for the challenges of veterinary practice.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student will mirror DVM schedule and role in the clinic floor and will play co-clinician role in triaging and discussing cases.  Assist in surgeries and procedures, and partake in all client communications. Student will work overnight and swing shifts during week 1 and one overnight and 3 day shifts in week 2.  Total DVM hours available for student = 112 (option to cut 1-2 days and/or shorten 14 hr overnights if there is a need to decrease hours)
