BluePearl Charlestown, MA

Description of Elective Experience

Students will work alongside ER veterinarians and boarded specialists (Internal Medicine, Surgery and Anesthesia) in a busy clinical setting. They will be expected to help perform physical exams, create problems and differentials lists, as well as devise diagnostic plans for high acuity emergency and referral cases. They will practice communication skills and have access for hands on opportunities as they arise.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Student externs have access to online educational resources as well as a full library of journals and textbooks on site. BluePearl externs are also expected to access the Clinical Pathology Essential curriculum (curated for DVM students) inside our online education platform.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Students will work with hospital management to develop a schedule that meets their needs for hours and caseload. Students are invited to stay past their allotted schedule if they are interested to follow a case, however, this is not mandatory.
