Description of Elective Experience

Will center around instruction in an exotic animal practice focusing on avian, reptile and small mammals. This clinic also routinely sees chelonians and amphibians.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

An avian and exotic clinic with two board associated vets (one ABVP - Avian and one ABVP - Exotic Companion Mammal); with a potential third vet added to staff by time of externship. Staffing includes support staff of seven assistants and two receptionists. Equipment and educational resources include usage of microsurgery, digital radiographs, ultrasounds, endoscopy, in house lab work and pharmacy, advanced surgical monitoring and ECG machine.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student responsibilities will include a 5 day work week with shifts of 8-9 hours shadowing doctors and assistants with instruction in animal handling, venipuncture, examinations, ext.
