Description of Elective Experience

This externship would be a mixture of sick appointments, well visits, and surgery/dentistry. An emphasis on more or less surgery days can be accommodated based on the externs goals (typically 1 day/week). While we do have an exotics-only DVM, the primary focus on this externship would be on canine and feline medicine. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

1:2 doctor to tech ratio

Dedicated registered pharmacy technician 

Dedicated surgical suite and dental room

High end ultrasound with in-house ultrasound and echocardiogram capabilities 

 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

8-4 M-Th

1 day/week surgery (can do more if desired)

1/2 day/week ultrasound

Expected to develop treatment plans, go over client communication plans
