Berwick Animal Clinic, OH

Description of Elective Experience

The elective experience would comprise of everyday small animal veterinary duties from taking appointments, diagnosing/treating patients, and performing surgical procedures.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have three licensed veterinarians, four licensed RVT's, and a total staff of 15 members.  We have digital dental and general radiography, laser therapy unit, and ultrasound.  We perform surgeries daily with routine anesthetic monitoring equipment.  We do not have overnight staff, but are equipped to hospitalize animals for appropriate needs (ie IV fluids, medications, etc.).

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

We expect a student to participate in a normal 40 hour work week.  We can be flexible on the 6 days of the week we are open.  We expect the students to engage in the diagnosing and treatment process, assist with surgery, practice venipuncutre and other appropriate procedures, and assist in surgeries.  At times, we do have rescue dogs that we can allow students to  neuter and spay.
