Description of Elective Experience

The veterinary student will be mentored alongside our doctors and caseload depends on the day;  provide experience in general practice including medicine, surgery, lab testing, routine bloodwork, urinalysis, etc, skin/ear diagnostics, radiology, client communication, proper handling, discuss cases and work in a team environment.

Appropriate staff to support the DVM's : 

Radiology- digital

Surgical suite and equipment

Laboratory for in house tests

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Shadowing the doctors on appointments, prep for surgery, scrub into surgeries, take radiographs and interpret them as well as other lab testing.  Work up cases, discuss diagnostics, results, and treatment plans.  Experience with venipuncture, place iv catheters, intubate, perform bloodwork, fecals, urinalysis, ear cytologies, skin diagnostics such as skin impressions, fungal cultures and skin scrapings.
