Description of Elective Experience

Elective experience will encompass activities associated with that of a Technical Service Veterinarian and focus on Poultry vaccines and the vaccination process.

1.  Technical Service Field calls to evaluate bird health, vaccination programs and efficacy, crew vaccinations, and USDA Health Inspections for export.

2.  Hatchery inspection and audits of hatchery vaccination processes.

3. Field posting sessions and sample collection for laboratory evaluation.

4. Visits to Diagnostic Laboratory Support Facilities/  University of Pennsylvania and Aviserve in Delaware

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Experience will be 100 percent in the field visiting farms, hatcheries and poultry related facilities. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The job essentially involves field visits to farms and hatcheries and the schedule is prioritized according to severity, need and biosecurity constraints of the issues that arise.  Bio-security protocol dictates a significant role as to how the weekly schedule is put together. Typically, field visits will average 30 plus or minus hours per week.

Student will have the opportunity to accompany and assist in all aspects of the field visits, posting sessions, and sample collection.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info)

Student will be staying with family while on rotation.  Meals and daily expenses will be covered by CEVA Animal Health.
