Atlantic Veterinary Internal Medicine and Oncology- Hunt Valley Location, MD

Description of Elective Experience

Externs will be shadowing within Chesapeake Valley Referral Center at Atlantic Veterinary Internal Medicine and Oncology. The referral center houses neurology, ophthalmology, surgery, cardiology and emergency as well as our IM and oncology department. We work closely with these services to provide comprehensive care to our patients. Externs will have the opportunity to work with board certified internists to see common IM cases. They will also have the opportunity to work with an oncologist up to two days a week to see common oncology cases. Students will be able to participate in appointments, procedures, and transfer patient care.

4 board certified IM veterinarians, 1 veterinary oncologist

 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Students may choose to do M-Th or Tues-Fri 10 hour shifts each day. Student will be expected to perform physical exams. Students will participate in daily case discussions. Students will assist the attending veterinarian in developing diagnostic plans. Students will participate in consultations with clients.
