Description of Elective Experience

Student will be exposed to all areas of beef cattle practice. Reproductive ultrasounding will be one area of emphasis this time of year. Student can also expect to be involved in calf preconditioning, foot care, sick animals, injuries, and salebarn inspection and services. We also do all the basic small animal, small ruminant and equine medicine and surgery. The student can expect plenty of hands on experience depending on their enthusiasm and level of competency. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have five veterinarians ranging from 1984 to 2019 graduates. We have haul-in facilities for all species as well as multiple portable hydraulic cattle chutes, corrals and alleys for processing all types of cattle in the country. We have CBC, blood chemistry, digital radiography, machines used mostly for companion animal work. Our equine area includes a knockdon room, hydraulic surgery table, stocks, two indoor stalls, powerfloat and other dental equipment. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Student is expected to be at the clinic or with a veterinarian during regular business hours which are 8:00-5:00 M-F. The student will be asked to help with any weekend treatments and needs to be available to help with after hours emergencies as well.
