Description of Elective Experience

Shadowing doctor and technicians at a busy small animal and exotic hospital. We see 50%+ non dog/cat patients which provides a interesting and varied caseload. A intern would be expected to see surgery and medical work ups with a variety of species. Practice management/ownership/work life balance will be also discussed.

Digital dental xray

In house (cbc and chem analysis) and outside lab services. Reptile and avian cbcs done manually in house with leukopet system.

Class 3 laser therapy

New building and mostly new equipment fall 2021

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

40 hours a week. Prefered during Dr Dixon's shifts, but flexible.

Shadowing, but willingness to see a gap and having initiative to help is always appreciated. Our technicians have a lot to offer in training as far as veinipuncture, iv catheters, anesthesia etc on a variety of species.
