Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists, AZ

Description of Elective Experience

Student will mostly be shadowing board certified veterinary dentists and their residents at a busy private  dentistry only practice. Students will have time to work on cadavers while they are here and also discuss cases commonly seen in practice to get a better dental foundation/knowledge base.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

Each doctor has 1-2 dedicated technical staff and ample dental equipment for extractions, root canal therapies, oral/maxillofacial trauma and oncologic surgery.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

Students will be expected to be in the office from approximately 8-5pm daily (Monday through Friday) with no on-call or weekend duties expected. Students will be dressed in scrubs or professional clothing and be punctual. Students are expected to observe/shadow all appointments and surgical cases and will not have primary case responsibility. We hope each rotation for the student to have time to practice extraction techniques on cadavers but that is limited by how busy we are in the hospital.
