Fourth year students have the opportunity to perform exams, go over wellness plans, help to create treatment plans, vaccinate pets, collect blood and urine, interpret labwork results, interpret radiographs, assist in small animal surgical procedures, observe small animal dentistry and work on client communication.
Our hospital is equipped with a radiology suite, an ultrasound, two microscopes, IDEXX CBC, Chemistry, and urinalysis machines, two dental tables with dental radiographs, as well as a full surgical suite. The hospital is divided into feline and canine exam rooms per our fear free status. There are 3 CSRs including a lead CSR, 2 licensed technicians and 4 veterinary assistants to provide support.
It is expected that the student arrives at the hospital by 8:40AM EST every morning to participate in the daily huddle at 8:45AM. The hospital closes at 6PM often times we are here later than that, however the student will only be expected to stay until 6PM. Lunch hour is from 1PM-2PM daily. The student will be expected to work 4 out of the 5 work days. If the student chooses to work the fifth day they will be welcome too. The student will shadow myself, Dr. Emily Angal, during the day as well as assist the technicians and assistants with gathering diagnostics on major medical cases.
Unfortunately there is no student housing available at this time.
