Animal Hospital of South Bay, CA

Description of Elective Experience

Mentorship opportunities and veterinary skills we are excited to share: Our practice was started by a husband and wife with the goal of creating a family-like culture with our employees. We provide general practice, urgent / ER care, and advanced surgery by Dr. Bierens. Our goal is to expose our young doctors to cases and procedures so they can continue to grow. If there I a surgical procedure you want to learn, we will teach you. We start our new doctors by doing surgery on pets that come from the local SPCALA that we have a contract with. Our goal is to have our doctors become comfortable performing routine surgeries and then expand their comfort zone doing more complicated cases. We have access to internal medicine specialists that come to our location for ultrasounds/echo. We are excited to meet new doctors that want to learn and continue to grow with us!

What a day in the hospital will look like for students: Our hospitals rotate a schedule where they each have a procedure day. Meaning, they are blocked off from 8am to 2pm procedures. The other doctor on that day sees appointments. We work as a team, so we do adapt based on caseload. Our goal is to provide clients the best medicine while providing convenient services. As a doctor, we want doctors to only handle doctor duties, We use our techs to help our associates get through the day. We have a very experienced support staff.
