Description of Elective Experience

Are you a vet student looking for some real-world experience? We’ve got it for you! Whether you’re in your 1st or 4th year, we would love to have you for a few days or 2 weeks to show you what independent veterinary practice can be like. Our practice typically sees 40-60 doctor appointments daily, plus surgeries, ensuring you’ll be exposed to a variety of cases.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We have 4 DVMs, 5 LVTS, 7 Techs, 2 tech assistants, and 5 client care reps. We’ll guide you through physical exams, diagnosing, interpreting labs, surgery, record keeping, and client communications.

 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

We ask that an externships last 1-2 weeks. You will be shadowing a DVM each day in their appointments, and assist them with surgery. You will work with each of our vets to learn different approaches and answer all your questions. You will work 5 days a week (we are closed on Saturday and Sunday) from 7:45am to 6pm. A stipend is provided.
