Description of Elective Experience

The student will be exposed and be able to participate in dystocias on cattle, uterine, vaginal and rectal prolapses. Neonatal care of calves. Semen testing, pregnancy diagnosis of cows via rectal palpation and ultrasound. Brucellosis vaccination of heifers. There will be regular GP work in the small animal clinic and some emergency equine exposure as well. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

We are a four veterinarian clinic with 9 support staff including four licensed veterinary technicians. We have 6 hydraulic chutes, a completely enclosed large animal working facility, a equine barn and a small animal clinic that includes in house labs, surgery, dental area including radiographs, digital x-ray. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student will be expected to work from 7.30am to 5.30pm alongside the veterinarians. They will also be expected to take call after hours. The student will be under the supervision of one of the veterinarians at all times.
