Description of Elective Experience

Animal Care Clinic is a small animal practice that focuses on canine and feline patients. We see patients almost daily for wellness check-ups, sick or wounded appointments and routine surgeries incuding spays, neuters and occasionally doctors will remove masses, repair ACL tears and amputations. The student will be able to float and see all of these while they are here at the clinic.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.

The student will be using many different types of equiptment with assistance of a trained staff member. Some equitpment we have are blood test machines, x-ray machine, lasers for post-op surgeries, microscopes, IV machines, instrument cleaning devices, dental scaler and vital monitors. They will be able to float to a section of the practice if a surgery is taking place or if appointments are being seen to help assist with guidance of a trained staff member.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?

The student will be at the clinic Monday through Friday from 8-5pm. They are expected to help assist where needed from checking in appointments and assisting the doctor on a specific case or assist the technitions on preping a patient for surgery and assisting a doctor if needed. They will also perform daily cleaning tasks as it is important that the clinic is clean and tidy.
