The student will work with a veterinarian to get a comprehensive general practice experience. They will see appointments, report lab results, manage prescription refill requests + other miscellaneous tasks, do dental procedures, and do soft tissue surgery. During any downtime, students will be expected to come up with topics they wish to learn more about so the veterinarian can lead related discussions.
All doctors except one doctor manage a caseload of approximately 50% dogs and 50% cats. One doctor largely sees exotics patients (small mammals, birds, and reptiles). The student may work with this doctor if they wish.
2 - 3 assistants + nurses will be present each day to support the student and their associated veterinarian.
We have dental x-ray, digital x-ray, Butterfly ultrasound, in-house bloodwork, and full monitoring equipment including capnography.
Four shifts that last 10 hours each are required each week. Students may spend additional time if they wish.
Students will take charge of appointments with a veterinarian overseeing and providing support as needed.
Students will perform soft tissue and dental surgery with a veterinarian constantly overseeing and providing guidance.
Students will not be required to perform technician tasks such as placing IV catheters and intubating, but can do so if they wish.
