During the elective, the student will be shadowing the Doctor and discuss cases, including exam findings, diagnostics, and treatment options in a real-world environment. These cases may include preventative care, internal medicine cases, cardiology cases, dermatology cases, surgical cases, etc. The student may also assist in surgery with the assigned Doctor when applicable. The goal of this elective will be to help the student with real day-to-day situations in a bust veterinary hospital. Housing will be provided locally by the Hospital and a stipend for meals will also be provided.
Adamson Veterinary Services is a busy daytime General Practice with an additional Urgent Care Practice during extended hours Friday through Tuesday. We are fully staffed with trained Registered Veterinary Technicians, assistants, and receptionists as part of the team. Digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray, a full in-house lab, and ultrasound are available in the hospital.
Students will follow the assigned Doctor during the daytime general practice hours as well as some extended hours in the evening. The total amount of hours will be 35 - 50 hours in the week depending on the Doctor's schedule and also the student's schedule. Weekends may be requested depending on the Doctor's schedule and also the student's schedule. The individual schedule will be discussed with each individual student at the time needed. The student will always be in communication with the Doctor with appointments and surgeries to be able to ask questions, discuss the case, etc.
It will be expected for the student to wear scrubs or dress in business casual and maintain professionalism throughout the time in the Hospital. The student is expected to have their own transport vehicle and arrive on-time for agreed schedule.
